Classical ballet has a long history in Russia, and its high art is still celebrated today. Through the perfected technique, it turns the body into an instrument of expressive power and thus brings the art of stage dance to perfection.
During the period of perestroika in the late 1980s, the Russian National Ballet was founded as Russia's first independent company. Its founder was the legendary first soloist of the Bolshoi Ballet, Maris Liepa, a star in the ballet firmament. The first soloists came from the Bolshoi, the Kirov Ballet, Riga, Kiev and Kazan. Today, the Russian National Ballet has its own training centres with over 100 dancers and outstanding ballet masters with international fame and wide-ranging experience. All dancers are graduates of the best ballet schools in Russia, with outstanding dance performances and international reputations. The ensemble's top priority is a harmonious, cohesive overall image and absolutely precise dance technique.
In addition to the task of developing new talent, it also aims to uphold the national tradition of important Russian ballet pieces. The repertoire includes practically all of Marius Petipa's great, completed works such as "Don Quichotte", "La Bayadere", "Sleeping Beauty", "Swan Lake", "Raymonda", "Paquita", but also other productions such as "The Nutcracker", "La Sylphide", "La Fille Mal Gardèe" and "Carmen".
With this broad repertoire, the Russian National Ballet has enjoyed worldwide success in England, the USA, South Africa, China, Italy, Germany and many other countries.
