Swing band
As a duo, SwingPhonyx presents a unique sound that would otherwise require at least a 7-piece band. The secret lies in the innovative sound technology that pianist and singer Jo Benson consistently brings to the stage: thanks to top-quality electronic grooves, which he controls live from the piano and to which he plays and solos, a perfect studio-quality orchestral sound is created.
He and the charming jazz singer Minou Paas sing both solo and choral vocals live, alternately or together. This is made possible by a new technique that allows polyphonic choirs to be used on stage, just like in the studio. This is demonstrated, among other things, by the audio samples that were recorded live: "What you hear is what you get". The duo thus lends a whole new lustre to legendary jazz tunes.
The two Swingphoniker have a very extensive repertoire: be it a show programme of well-known swing, jazz and rock'n'roll titles, be it sophisticated bar music for restaurants, lobbies, dinners or chill-outs or be it international entertainment and dance music for parties, street festivals and other events where people like to dance.
Jo Benson grew up in a family of musicians and has worked internationally as a pianist, singer, composer and arranger. As the creative head of several bands, he has led four-part jazz vocal ensembles in the style of the 40s and 50s. Since 2011, he has found the ideal complement in the charismatic voice of Minou.
Minou Paas was already singing on many stages at the age of 17 and appeared on TV shows under the stage name "Melissa" (Musikladen, Bananas, WWF Club etc.). She released several pop songs as singles with EMI and CBS. In Los Angeles, where she lived for many years, her enthusiasm for jazz deepened. Minou's captivatingly sensitive voice interprets a wide musical spectrum from velvety bossa novas and jazz ballads to groovy rockabilly hits.
